Project 1 ITPs UAS Image Acquisition in Butuan City, Ground Truth Collection of ITPs, WPPs and Furniture Stores in Agusan Del Norte

Introduction

Popular today is an unmanned aerial system (UAS) which is a drone technology that can utilize a GNSS positioning with up to centimeter level accurate images. Therefore, the drone technology can provide a very high-resolution imagery below cloud level which can be an alternative to satellite images. On the other hand, “ground truth” refers to the information on a location relating a remotely sensed image to the ground, which allows correction to the data and helps in the image interpretation and analysis. One of the goals of the ITPS Center Project 1 is to develop an integrated online geodatabase that contains geographic data and other relevant data of ITP species such as Bagras, Falcata, Gmelina, and Mangium, also wood processing plants (WPP) and furniture shops using remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) technologies (http://itps-center.ccgeo.info/geodatabase). To achieve this goal, the CCGeo personnel conducted several activities that include the collection of ground truth data, and UAS image acquisition.

Objectives

The objectives are: to acquire aerial images on Falcata plantations at different growth stage (or age), and Mangium farms in Butuan City; to collect ground truth data from additional or newly-located ITPs, wood processing plants (WPP) and furniture stores from the Department of Trade and Industries (DTI) registry all over Agusan del Norte province.
